The client software was designed to hold for each representative a list of competitive stations that were
located within the range of stores in which they were to manage. As the field rep would input new data for
Regular, the remainders of the field would populate incrementally by $.10 (Super, Supreme, Diesel); which
is the standard way in which stations everywhere price gasoline. The field rep could edit any field desired as
needed when stations priced gas in a non-traditional way. The development strategy of having all stations
relevant to the rep pre-loaded and to offer the “populate pricing” function proved to save a significant
amount of time once implemented.
The AirMobility.Net Wireless Middleware enabled Shell to collect, aggregate and process field data collected
in virtually real-time. What used to take several week to adjust pricing; Shell is in the position of making
intelligent pricing decisions, down to the station level in a mater of days. The model has had a significant
impact on making Shell a more competitive location to purchase gas everywhere the solution has been
implemented.
