Unlike many vendors who provide wireless development and integration services to other businesses,
Westlake Software, Inc. places careful attention to architectural detail. The objective is to find for customers
their Optimal Workflow Scenario™. This detail often saves organizations thousands of hours in lost
productivity due to poor software design and implementation.
The wireless forms created for the RAEs in this case were all made clear and menu driven for a self-
explanatory environment.
Upon the gathering of the local store data, the Westlake J2ME program automatically captures the current
GPS coordinates of the RAE. These coordinates are compared and then calculated against the known GPS
coordinate of the store they are visiting. If the RAE is beyond a half a mile from the store, a red flag is
generated and emailed immediately to their denoted manger.
This specific feature provides two functions. First, if a retail store were to ever challenge that an RAE had
not visited their location for X amount of time, not only is there a record of the visit, but proof that the rep
was actually at the location. Second, over several years, Nextel Retail Management has had incidents with
RAEs of not actually going to the stores, etc. This could be due to a disgruntled employee, and employee
doubling up and working two jobs, etc. For this type of function, RAEs for Nextel (or any manufacture with
products in a national retail environment) that wants to be sure that their representatives are actually going
to the locations required, this solution is an effective means to provide that insurance. By establishing what
is known as a Geo-Fence around the store and then tracking that against the RAEs location when submitting
a record, management can be assured that at minimum, the rep was in the field where they were supposed to
be.
