Valley Courier Services approached Nextel and Westlake to design a solution to help them track
and monitor transactions with their drivers in the field. Valley Couriers assists several major
banks in physically moving sensitive information from one bank to another. For example, Valley
Couriers would be expected to visit and pick up information at five banks regionally and then
drop all this information at a sixth bank for central processing.
A request came from their largest bank customer to develop a way to monitor, track and analyze
these transactions in real time from the field. The bank was in need of being able to log on to a
private Extranet, select a region, route or driver and view where the drive was in his/her route,
what was picked up and at what location (dropped off, etc.). The courier service required the
ability to manage all driving routes and location information, monitor regional tracking and
manage shift scheduling. In addition, other features such as the ability to instantaneously
reassign routes for drivers on vacation or out sick and a way to monitor if a driver is on schedule
were also requested. Westlake Software, Inc. and Nextel of Southern California teamed
together to architect a solution to assist both the courier service and regional banking services
to achieve these goals.
